The Experience

Before You Go

Book golden hour for best light

Schedule the shoot around sunrise or late afternoon to avoid harsh shadows and capture warm skin tones; mornings also tend to be quieter.

Respect the animals and enclosures

Peacocks, geese and pond turtles are part of the park—do not feed or handle them and follow signs near the living corner.

Bring extra battery and storage

Phone or camera batteries drain quickly during active sessions—carry a spare power bank and free up space for high-resolution photos.

Wear stable, comfortable shoes

Paths are mostly packed earth with roots and occasional wet spots near ponds—choose footwear you can move and pose in.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Small Roman-era stones and mosaics tucked into shaded groves
  • A quiet pergola near the northern pond where peacocks often stroll for candid shots

Wildlife

  • Peacocks
  • Pond turtles (and koi)

Conservation Note

Stay on paths, do not feed animals, and avoid trampling lawns—the garden is a managed urban ecosystem vulnerable to overuse.

The garden was commissioned for Queen Amalia in 1838–1840 and was designed to introduce ornamental and exotic plantings to the new Greek capital.
